Cool Crisp Air

The Clarity of a Cool Night

So I was walking around outside, as I tend to do when I get a moment to breathe, and I was reminded of just how beaituful the sky can be. As much as I get a little meh because of the cold, I forget how much clearer the stars become, how much more colorful the sky shimmers and how fresh the air can feel. And then, you have the added beauty of the changing leaves on top of it and at any given point in the day, you can catch such wonderful sights. One of the things that I really enjoy is just how the different elevations for trees change at different rates, I look out into the rilloing forest and see ribbons of red, yellow, oragne, green and brown flowing across the landscape. As you look further back those colors fuse and blend with the brialliantly blue skies or rich colors of the setting sun. OMG, i totally forgot, yesterday as the sun was setting it cast the insane pink glow across everything I could see. And I’m am over there driving, barely paying attention and just soaking it in. So glad my brain drives for me so I can enjoy these things hahaha. But it just so nice when the cool air hits your face, the colors dance into your eyes and the rays of the sun warm your skin, its this little perfect capsule of life and its experiences.

But, on top of that, the night sky, oh how spectacular the night sky can be this time of year. We get the idea in our heads that winters are cold, grey, wet, and who knows what else. But people seem to forget, it is the time where the stars shinve ther birghtest. And because their is no heavy atmosphere, all the light and color of every little star shines through straight into your being. And the twinkling, oh how i love it, just watching these miracles of life sparkle endlessly into the night, sharing all the power and simplicaity that they are at the same time. Winter is not just a place where the world rests, its also the place where light shines the brightest.

A Candle and A Mirror

All this contremplation about light and shadows reminds me of a couple things that I have heard over the years. Not that its some magical insight, but when you think about it, it kind of is. First, the candle. During a particularly difficult time in my life I was talking with someone about overwhelming dred and fear, about approaching horror and the feelings of impending doom. And I am not sure if it was the timing or that person presence, but what they said hit me exactly where it needed to. They said, “You know Andrew, a single candle can light up even the darkest of rooms.” And it struck me, not only because of the amazong power of light to cut through any level of shadows, but in the simplicity of it. This tiny dancing little flame, one that looks like it can be cast out with the slightest of breezes, contains within it the ability to dissolve infinite shadow. And what happens when that light melts away the darkness that clouds our vision, we see the room for what it is, not what the shadow would have us believe is in their by playing uor fears. A tiny little light……yet the potential to shed away all darkness imaginable.

And as far as the mirror is concerned, this one is a little funny. I was in a group team building meeting somehwere, and we were all given a list of 100 things that we could choose from in order to survive being islaoted in the middle of a desert. All sorts of things were listed, a bottle of water, a raincoat, a canoe?!?!? XD, a lighter a knife, and a mirror….just to name a few. And after discussing and reviewing all our ideas, we compared who would be the most likely to survive. And the answer was, who ever put the mirror highest on the list. Why, because the mirror has that ability to reflect something like 10000 candle light amount of lumens back in whatever direction we want. It could be used to signal further and faster than any other means we have and would be virtually undeniable if a passing plane or caravan wandered within visible range. But it just makes me think, here is this tiny little thing that looks so unimposing. But because it has the ability to work with the wonderful world around it in such a clear and dirct way, it can move one of the very sources of life itself to aid us in a deperate time of need. Just think thats pretty cool. On another note, the raincoat was actually extreemly helpful as well, and the water….. is actually a terrible idea. Just kind of funny how in different circumstances, things are needed in ways we did not expecct or could not predict, and sometimes the least likeley thing is the most useful and what seems like the most logical or reasonable thing, is actually what is the most dangerous. Anyway, ofc I won XD I got 4 out of the top 5 right. But for whatever reason I am always good at figuring out misleading riddles and problems. Its just a matter of looking at it from a different perspective most times honestly. If I can loko outside myself, at myself, then I can see the full picture and not just the barriers around my psyche. Thats actually a cool concept….maybe I’ll explore that sometime 😀 Well back to to the great play.
