Denizen of the Skies | Smog Dragon Creature

$12.00$23.00

This Smog Dragon Creature Poster was inspired by one of the many creature of the week challenges from the old conceptart.org forum. Every week the moderators would poll the audience for ideas for a mock project. Often, included challenges were limited choice of color, style, subject matter, composition and more. Creating with limitations is a fantastic way to develop your skills, as a quick art tip.

For this particular creature prompt, we were asked to develop a creature that lived in the toxic skies, above a planet mass where very few animals can survive. Denizen of the Skies, was the challenge name, if I recall correctly. My thought was to create an emaciated looking dragon wyrm type creature. And, instead of flying it would glide on the warm toxic currents that rose from the planet core. I kept the body somewhat thin, as well as the arms and legs. This smog creature just so happens to put all of its energy into its head and tail. It has a long barbed tail to snatch up anything it sees, at a distance. Then it has a large mouth with curved teeth to easily snatch in any prey. But on top of that, it also has tentacles around its face to help pull in victims, like an octopus.

It really is a cool looking beast that I enjoy looking at year after year. Pick up a print for yourself.
